We love it for its grandness; we love it for its eyesome set! The plot is thrilling indeed, but what holds our breath is the depiction of the story. Yes, we are talking about Game of Thrones, the most watched TV series ever. Its 6th season was aired recently. As soon as the last episode of season 6 concluded, the entire fan base across the world poured into the social media. Well, out of many factors that drive each and every fan crazy, one is the appeal of the show’s characters.

The Jewelry worn by the characters plays an undeniable role in connecting the artist and the audience with the character. Each piece of jewelry is exquisite. This may be the reason why jewelry worn by the Game of Throne’s characters is personified.

It is certainly a tough task to convert a character and its jewelry, which is vividly described with exceptionally minute details by George R. R. Martin in his books, into reality. Michele Clapton, who looks after most of the costume and jewelry design, says in an interview, “Costumes are so linked to the characters, and jewelry often tells a story about them”. While talking about Cersei’s jewelry she says, “We use jewelry for Cersei a lot. When she’s feeling insecure, like with Margaery, for instance, she wears these big, clunky gold pieces to show that she’s a Lannister and important and has status. “

Melisandre’s choker turned out to be a twist in the story this season.“I wanted something that was so quickly identifiable with her because she’s out of place,” Michele says in the interview. “I wanted her to be really strong, so we came up with that heptagonal piece. When we first designed it, it was supposed to glimmer and flash. It became too much of an issue to do that.”

“The hand of king may change but the necklace is designed, to symbolize Linked hands guiding the way”, Michele says.

“I chose to make it in silver with just wisps of gold to try to show her isolation, her mental disentangling from her family. There is no reference to [her late husband, Robert] Baratheon; there is no need anymore. She doesn’t have to try and prove a link. The center of the crown is the lion sigil abstracted — its mane represents the Iron Throne, her desire. She has made it her own — she is reborn”

Though Michele Clapton conceptualizes these jewelry, they materialize at Steensons Jewellers’ shop in Northern Ireland. On display at Steensons Jewellers are components of the original prototypes.

When people (or characters) inspire jewelry, jewelry inspires people too. And that is how the modern jewelry world is transforming. There are several online shopping sites that offer a wide range of GoT inspired jewelry. Earlier, Pyrrha in official collaboration with HBO had launched its new line of GoT talismans. On Etsy, one finds thousands of fan made jewelry. Now, Michele herself, in association with London based designers Yunus and Eliza has launched MEY, where one can surf through 22 piece collection of sculptural statement jewelry. MEY has HBO global license for manufacturing and selling GoT inspired jewelry.

Moreover, one can also buy GoT accessories and collectibles like pendants, cuff-links etc. on official HBO store. So now, wearing GoT themed jewelry would certainly get one more involved with the show and express how much they love it!
